Pollution Monitoring and Evaluation System Using Sensor Based Wireless Mesh Networks for The Protection of Public Spaces
Air pollution is one of the most important environmental issues that has its direct effect on human health and maintenance of ecological balance. Environment and Safety monitoring is also a grave concern in almost every industrial sector. Analyzing the importance of the issue and demand of various end-user segments, IIM Calcutta took up an R & D project entitled “Pollution Monitoring and Evaluation System Using Sensor-based Wireless Mesh Network for the Protection of Public Spaces” to put forward a solution to monitor air quality using wireless sensor network. The objective of this project was to design, develop and implement a sensor-based wireless mesh network in a pilot scale to monitor the level of air pollution in real-time for the protection of public space. Wireless sensor network offer powerful ways to monitor air quality, without the costs of major new installations or laying wires. The project was funded by Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Govt. of India
